EGYPTIAN GEESE
Egyptian Geese started appearing around the SLCCV lakes in the spring of 2013.  They are the large web footed birds with the big dark circles around their eyes.   This goose is a not a native of Florida and was brought here by man as a decorative addition to their lakes and ponds.  This goose dates back many centuries and it is believed that the ancient Egyptians held it sacred.  Pictures of this goose are found in the tombs of the pharos.  The first SLCCV nesting pair was observed in early 2014 and were photographed by Janet Spada in a backyard on Villa Blanca.  See her photos below.
